WUN Director of Philanthropy
Position Description:
WUN is hiring a Director of Philanthropy, a full-time, exempt and remote position to drive initiatives that engage donors and volunteers, build lasting relationships, increase philanthropic revenue, and amplify WUN’s mission.
The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with extraordinary interpersonal skills, a demonstrated track record in fundraising and development, and a commitment to collaboration and team-building, as this role offers an exciting opportunity to lead and inspire. You’ll combine your integrity, motivation, and fundraising expertise to help improve the lives of those with narcolepsy and their families.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and prior experience in fundraising or similar role
- Proven experience in managing and growing relationships with multiple donor sources
- Skilled at influencing and engaging diverse donors, fostering long-term relationships, leading strategic and tactical fundraising
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with stakeholders
- Confident public speaker with excellent time management and decision-making abilities
- Demonstrates integrity, credibility, and commitment to WUN’s mission and values
- Innovative, highly motivated, and capable of fundraising in a variety of capacities
- Experience in engaging and leading volunteer committees
- Adept at grassroots community building and engagement
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, donor research platforms, and database management software
Responsibilities:
The Director of Philanthropy will drive initiatives that engage donors, build lasting relationships, and support WUN’s mission. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with extraordinary interpersonal skills, have a talent for developing volunteers and committees, demonstrate leadership and inspire individuals, donors, and sponsors. You’ll combine your industry expertise, integrity, motivation, and creative vision to help shape the future of WUN’s development program. A willingness and ability to do some domestic travel is required. The position also requires the ability to work some weekends and sometimes after 5 PM ET to accommodate special pre-scheduled meetings and events. Must occasionally lift and move up to 20 pounds in preparation for special events
- Fundraising:
- Oversees all fundraising and development activities
- Solicits gifts to support WUN’s mission
- Establishes and implements plans to increase annual revenue through solicitation of major gifts, corporate and foundation support, grants, special events, annual and campaign giving, and peer-to-peer fundraising
- Creates and implements an annual development campaign
- Identifies, cultivates and manages a robust individual giving prospect list
- Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with current and prospective donors
- Maintains accurate and complete records of donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders to analyze fundraising performance and execute year-long stewardship strategies
- Engagement:
- Contributes to the planning and execution of events to ensure exceptional experience with a focus on cultivation and stewardship
- Develops and oversees a volunteer Ambassador engagement strategy, plan and community
- Organizes fundraising events such as and not limited to stakeholder DIY, educational forums, panels and summits, galas, parlor meetings, town halls, and community events to maximize awareness, participation and revenue
- Creates opportunities for members and donors throughout the year
- Maintains constituent journey and touchpoints in CRM
- Outreach and Communication:
- Collaborates with other team members to develop strategies across, but not limited to, print, email, radio, and online communications to support fundraising efforts and amplify WUN brand awareness
- Drafts and delivers presentations to targeted sponsors, donors, community groups, and more
- Attends virtual and external community and industry events to develop relationships with strategic partners
- Management:
- Collaborates with WUN leadership to identify funding needs, set budgets and targets, and strategize best approaches
- Provides leadership, coaching, and hands-on engagement with staff, volunteers, and Board members for the purpose of developing a culture of philanthropy while increasing capabilities and effectiveness for fundraising
- Maintains quality standards in all activities and policies
- Works with the Board and volunteer committees to leverage networks and expertise in fundraising activities
- Leads development support staff and oversees vendors and volunteers

WUN Fundraising Coordinator
Position Description:
WUN is hiring a Fundraising Coordinator, a full-time, exempt and remote position to engage communities and volunteers in WUN’s mission and fundraising. This position will report to the Director of Philanthropy and additionally support other projects. The ideal candidate will be a strong communicator with nonprofit experience in fundraising, event planning and/or volunteer development. You will create thoughtful community engagement tactics and grow WUN’s portfolio of third-party and community DIY events. You’ll be instrumental in helping improve the lives of those impacted by Narcolepsy. A willingness and ability to do some domestic travel is required. Responsibilities:
This newly created position will grow WUN’s grassroots engagement and community fundraising while supporting other areas of WUN’s evolving development program portfolio.
- Support Director of Philanthropy on essential projects and work collaboratively with other WUN staff as appropriate to achieve goals.
- Collaborate on outreach campaigns to drive volunteer interest
- Development of a grassroots community pilot program to encourage local awareness and collaborative experience
- Coordinate national virtual events and presentations
- Assist recruiting participants for events, silent and live auction items, as well as helping with stewardship activities
- Collaborate with Program Manager to identify volunteer prospects and stewardship plans
- Serve as the point person for third-party and community DIY events such as Step Up for Narcolepsy
- Develop and cultivate relationships with event participants, sponsors, fundraisers, donors, leadership, volunteers, and other community partners
- Prepare presentations and reports as cultivation and stewardship tools
- Maintain database integrity and quality by ensuring timely and accurate constituent information entry and appropriate queries and reports
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree and/or two years prior experience in fundraising or similar role
- Project or event management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to inspire and support volunteers in fundraising and awareness events
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work both independently without close oversight, and as a team player
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time
- Proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe, CRM system
- High energy and passion for organization’s mission
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, donor research platforms, and database management software
