"Faith moves mountains, but you have to keep pushing while you are praying."
- Mason Cooley

About two years ago, my son was diagnosed with an acute onset of Narcolepsy with Cataplexy. I had heard of Narcolepsy, but had never heard of Cataplexy and, still now, over a year after this diagnosis, continue to learn about this complicated disorder. Narcolepsy with Cataplexy is a serious neurological disorder with no cure and limited medical treatment. After watching my child have to live with this disorder, I believe that Narcolepsy with Cataplexy deserves more awareness and understanding from the public, and more interest from the medical research community and pharmaceutical world to find a cure.

I will be running the Boston Marathon on April 19, 2010, to raise money to support research for Wake Up Narcolepsy, Inc. I have run the Boston Marathon twice before, in my late twenties. Now, in my mid forties, I run for my son, and will train hard because I know running this race will be another step forward on our quest for a cure for Narcolepsy with Cataplexy.

My husband and I observe in amazement at what our son accomplishes everyday while quietly living with Narcolepsy with Cataplexy. He continues to trudge forward, never complaining, and I know my training for the marathon pales in comparison to the challenges my son faces having to live with this disorder.

Thank you for considering our cause. Please remember that every donation is greatly appreciated and no amount is too small.

My sincere thanks,

Monica Gow
