Thank you for visiting my Fundraising Page! I am running the Boston Marathon on April 19th, 2010 to raise money to fund narcolepsy research. Before training for this marathon, I never ran longer than 8 miles at once, yet my efforts to train for the 26.2 miles are fueled by my strong belief that a brighter future is just around the corner for narcolepsy.

As many of you may know, I was diagnosed with narcolepsy just over two years ago. Adjusting to life with narcolepsy has been an enormous challenge, taking patience and strength I never knew I possessed until faced with this neurological disorder. Narcolepsy is a chronic disorder that lasts a lifetime and there is currently no cure. After two years, I am still learning to manage my symptoms and medications as best I can.

Funding narcolepsy research is incredibly vital to any advancement in this field. Although narcolepsy affects about 1 in every 2,000 people, the disorder faces unique challenges in research and development as a relatively “rare” disorder. As reported by the New York Times in 2008, “Ultimately, experts say, the main obstacle to developing any narcolepsy medication is that the number of patients is too small to lure pharmaceutical firms into making the expensive investment required to bring a remedy to market.”

Wake Up Narcolepsy is committed to funding cutting-edge narcolepsy research that will lead to better treatments and eventually a cure. Many thanks for your support! Please feel free to share this site with anyone who may be interesting in supporting our efforts.
